Fall 2019
Recent, Current & Future Exhibitions
Closing Reception of the Voyzx Contemporary Surrealism show in Vancouver 2019-08-18
Recent: During the month of August, I participated in an exhibition in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada called the Voyzx Exhibition of Contemporary Surrealism, produced and curated by the Voyzx Art Project, which is an international organization dedicated to Surrealism, post-Dadaism, Expressionism and Conceptual Art. The group produces an online magazine (in which I have also been twice featured: “Inside a Surrealist’s Mind” an Interview: Barry Gordon, Voyzx Art, Vol 1, #1 2018; “Unexpected Discovery” work of Barry Gordon, Voyzx Art, Vol 1, #3 2018) and also produces international exhibitions focused primarily on surrealistic art. This exhibition featured the art of 11 artists from nine different countries. “[This] exhibition is a journey into an atmosphere of special contemplation; a metaphysical multi-dimensional space where multi-syllable visual patterns reproduce the panorama of our existence.” (From the Catalogue of Voyzx Exhibition of Contemporary Surrealism, August 10-20 2019)
Current: JAI Jerusalem Biennale 2019 During this Fall (October 10 through November 28), I am a participant in the Jerusalem Biennale. JAI is the Jewish Arts Initiative, a national organization; I am a member of the Los Angeles affiliate. Our exhibition display is a multichannel video installation consisting of five short films documenting conversations between the curator Sagi Refael and 27 JAI artists, of which I am one, alongside three unique artist books with beautiful contributions that illustrate and visually expand on the themes discussed in the videos.
Visitors are invited to look through the books while the sound of the video simulates a vocal discussion in the tradition of a symposium, or an enthusiastic roundtable.
The five videos are available to watch online on the JAI YouTube Channel and the JAI website homepage. Sagi Refael, is the Exhibition Curator. The exhibit is called "Table of Contents / Table of Contacts" located at Hechal Shlomo, Museum of Jewish Art, Jerusalem, 58 King George Street, Jerusalem, Israel.
In conjunction with the Jerusalem installation, we had a simultaneous exhibition at Hillel on the USC campus, of artworks by the same group, in which I was also a participant. This exhibition has the title of "For Heavens Sake." My piece in this show was called “The Lobbyist and the Congressman: Who Dazzles Whom?”
